Jury on a capital punishment case?

For capital punishment cases, jurors make a verdict of guilty or not guilty. Not guilty, should go free. But if they make a verdict of guilty, they are then tasked with also deciding if the defendant should be recommended the death penalty, or life in prison. If no verdict can be made, the jury is declared a hung jury and a new panel selected, trial starts all over.
